The Coalition Government released its long-term vision for the future of the NHS in July 2010 in the White Paper ‘Equity and Excellence: Liberating the NHS’. The Government announced that, in order to shift decision-making as close as possible to individual patients, power and responsibility for commissioning services will be devolved to local consortia of GP practices. These proposals are being implemented by the controversial Health and Social Care Bill passing through Parliament. Clinical Comminssing Groups are expected to be in place by 1 April 2013 to replace Primary Care Trusts.
We have worked with many GPs and their partners to design new models for service delivery and practice based commissioning. This has included creating new corporate organisations to manage local commissioning activities and care pathways, advising on new governance models and bids for SPMS and APMS contracts as well as advice on partnering with premises and equipment providers.
