On 6 April TPP's Managing Director, Mark Johnson, was a guest speaker at this one day event organised and hosted by Neil Stewart Associates. The event was one in a series of events focusing on mutuals, spinning-out and social enterprise.
Since the Coalition formed last year there has been a lot of debate surrounding the externalisation of public services and the role of social enterprise and mutual or "spin-out" organisations in the new public service landscape. Against this backdrop, the event addressed a wide range of issues in the context of finance and funding.
To explore the risks of spinning out of local authority control and how to implement effective failure regimes, Mark presented an interactive session based on a case study looking at a fictional spin-out organisation set up to provide prison healthcare. During the session, Mark and delegates were able to highlight where mistakes were made in the spin-out process and where lessons could be learned. Mark exposed key risk areas and offered solutions with which those risks could be mitigated.
The presentation was streamed live on the day of the event, and you can view a video file of Mark's session by following this link. You can also view the case study briefing note and presentation slides.
As exhibitors at the event, TPP were also able to discuss with delegates our updated Special Report Developing a Mutual for Local Authority Service Delivery (April Edition). Copies are available by request - just click here.
Mark will be taking part in the Understanding ModernGov event 'A Guide to Becoming a Mutual' on July 6th in London. The comprehensive training
day, aimed at public sector professionals, will be devoted to furthering delegates' understanding of mutual organisations and community empowerment. Mark will be running a session on understanding the legal implications of mutualism. For further information on the programme for the day or to book your place, please click here.
