Earlier in 2011 the Government called for an independent review on sickness absence to help combat the significant number of days lost to sickness absence each year. The independent review, known as Health at Work, was completed in November 2011 and identifies the current system as one that pushes people away from the labour market towards inactivity; fails to invest in support for those that need it; and adds significant cost to business at a time of economic difficulty.
