Proposals for
Smarter Government Published
During early December, the Government launched its plans for improving frontline
services, increasing Government efficiency, and using technology to help hospitals,
schools and police forces get better value for money.
A report titled ‘Putting the frontline first: smarter government’ sets out three
key pillars of the plan:
|
1. |
To drive up standards by strengthening the role of citizens
and civic society; |
|
2. |
To free up public services by recasting the relationship
between the centre and the frontline; and |
|
3. |
To streamline the centre of government, saving money through
sharper delivery. |
The various short term and longer term aspects of the scheme
are set out in a Forward Plan. Headline proposals include: “Giving people guarantees
to high-quality public services”, “Let local areas set priorities and guide resources
by streamlining the national performance framework” and efficiency drives that will
affect central government departments.
